District 1 Supervisor Moke Simon Maps Valley Fire Recovery

Lake County residents know well and continue to respond to consequences of the devastation of 2015’s Valley Fire.  The journey to full recovery is long, and will continue for years to come.

Even prior to being elected District 1 Supervisor, Moke Simon stood alongside Valley Fire survivors, encouraging them to fight back and to rebuild.
“I believe in the resilience of the people of this County.  I regularly hear from constituents about the challenges they continue to face in the aftermath of the Valley Fire.  I am also regularly inspired by the many stories of overcoming, many victories in the face of severe circumstances.  Whatever setbacks come, we need to continue to look ahead, and mark our progress along the way,” says Simon.
Now, Supervisor Simon has provided a tool that will help impacted communities see their progress.  At Simon’s request, County staff developed a digital map, depicting Valley Fire reconstruction.  This map, which will be updated on a monthly basis, is now available on the County’s website:
http://gispublic.co.lake.ca.us/portal/home/item.html?id=d073d9b5f6814699a0594072beb8840d

To find the map, begin at the County of Lake home page, http://www.co.lake.ca.us/. Click “GIS/Mapping,” found at the far right under the “Resources” tab.  Then click the link to acknowledge the disclaimer and proceed to the GIS site.  Once you have entered the GIS site, type, “Valley Fire Reconstruction” in the search bar in the upper right corner and hit the Enter key.  Clicking on the image that comes up will open the Valley Fire Reconstruction Web Map.
“At first glance, what jumps across is how many properties, how many families were affected by the fire,” admits Simon, “but when you zoom in, when you look more locally, it is obvious that we are rebuilding.  Considering where we started, with thousands of homes lost, I am encouraged by all that Lake County residents have accomplished so far.  I also commit to continuing to respond to needs raised by constituents, and doing my part to see our recovery through.”
The Valley Fire Reconstruction Web Map is an important support, and a testament to Supervisor Simon’s commitment to serving Lake County.
