Governor Newsom Adds Statewide Restrictions in Response to Rising COVID-19 Activity

Lake County, CA (July 13, 2020) – COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to rise in our region and throughout California.

During his noon Press Conference today, Governor Newsom announced statewide re-closure, effective immediately, of indoor operations in the following business sectors:
  • Restaurants
  • Wineries and Tasting Rooms
  • Movie Theaters
  • Family Entertainment Centers
  • Zoos and Museums
  • Cardrooms
California Businesses in the above-named industries are allowed to continue to operate to the extent they are able to provide services outdoors and/or offer to-go orders, curbside pickup and delivery.

Bars, Brewpubs, Breweries and Pubs were ordered to immediately close ALL operations.

These new restrictions apply to Lake County, and more information is available here:

https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/Guidance-of-Closure-of-Sectors-in-Response-to-COVID-19.aspx

Today’s restrictions signal the State is taking a statewide and regional approach to pandemic response, in consideration of the movement of people and patients across county lines.  Per Dr. Angell and Governor Newsom’s jointly issued, “Guidance on Closure of Sectors in Response to COVID-19” (linked above), indoor activities are among the first to be limited because recent evidence indicates “Closed environments” enable “secondary transmission” of COVID-19:

For the 30 Counties on the State’s “Watch List,” restrictions were added to further business sectors and activities.  Lake County is not currently on the list.  However, it does include neighboring Sonoma, Napa, Yolo, Colusa, and Glenn Counties.

Some may have heard the Governor make reference to Lake County in discussion that included the possibility of adding additional counties to the Watch List in the next day or so.  We do not anticipate Lake County will be added at this time, but we must remain vigilant in taking precautions, as regional COVID-19 activity is considerable.

New cases continue to be documented in Lake County.  Our cumulative total stands at 121 cases, with 30 active, an increase of 11 active cases since our July 9 COVID-19 update.

County Museums Closed
In light of the Governor’s Order, effective immediately, the three County-owned museums will be closed to the public:
  • Historic Courthouse Museum (Lakeport)
  • Lower Lake Schoolhouse Museum
  • Gibson Museum and Cultural Center (Middletown)

Thank you for continuing to comply with State Orders and protect those close to you by taking precautions.
