The project provides services to people with HIV AIDs.
There are 60 clients. 200+ people in Lake County have HIV AIDs. “It’s hard to get the actual numbers because counties only report people when they’re first diagnosed.”
There’s a drop-in center in Clearlake.
Of course state cuts have affected their programs, some by half. “Sometimes short-term cuts result in increases in expenses down the road.” What the state of New York found after making similar cuts was that their long-term costs went up.
Right now younger people are contracting AIDs the most because they have a feeling that it’s a curable disease. She overheard two girls talking and one claimed that “you just have to take some pills.” This is not the case, some of the medications don’t work for everybody. There is a tremendous amount of unprotected sex in youth today.
There is a needle exchange program in the County and this is good for a variety of reasons, including the “underground networking” where information is exchanged among participants.
There will be an AIDS walk around Austin Park. This is a good opportunity for businesses, for example companies can create a team or even sponsor one.

The road department may have to be financed by the County until state funding comes in.
About $700K of redevelopment will be taken by the state which won’t affect existing projects but will affect future projects. Denise says the state is “borrowing” the money and the County may have to sue to get it back.
There will be no layoffs in the General Funds areas but some departments, like Social Services, are particularly hard hit.
With regard to algae, the COunty was planning to look at a new algae harvester. There are short- and long-term projects but, “Many of the things that matter to this lake are underfunded.”

With technology making it easier than ever for people to operate a business out of their house, many taxpayers may be able to take a home office deduction when filing their 2009 federal tax return next year.
Here are five important things the IRS wants you to know about claiming the home office deduction.
1. Generally, in order to claim a business deduction for your home, you must use part of your home exclusively and regularly:
- As your principal place of business, or
- As a place to meet or deal with patients, clients or customers in the normal course of your business, or
- In the case of a separate structure which is not attached to your home, it must be used in connection with your trade or business
For certain storage use, rental use or daycare-facility use, you are required to use the property regularly but not exclusively.
