Brent Siemer Guest Speaker

Brent-Siemer-NSBARoots in Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake County but he is here to stay.  He worked himself up from a road crew worker to superviser.  He likes to think outside the box by looking at problems as lots of opportunities.

Right now he is a one-man show in his office with a $5 million annual budget then special projects money flows in so it is around $155 per running road or 1/4% goes back to roads a year.

Current projects: Road improvements using Permazyne which adheres to the natural soil in dirt roads around the county to make a durable surface that lasts around 12 years; a trail bridge connecting Upper Lake to Rodman Slough; making bike lanes; Clearlake Oaks Keyes area sidewalks.  He works closely with Caltrans and other funding sources suck as sale tax, property tax, and DMV.  There is a traffic calming plan for hwy 20 that will be funded by federal monies.

His job is complicated due to funding shortages, dealing with aging calverts, bridges, transit pullouts, and roads.  Even though we are the poster child for failed roads, this is understandable as our infrastructure was never meant to be high usage.

Our thanks to Debbie Clarke from Clarkes Collectibles for taking notes this time as well as the photo.
